xkcd = funny

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

I have seen a few of the comics from xkcd and have found them to be rather funny (although I don’t know what that says about me…). Anyways, check it out!

SDSU!

SDSU My little sister is now a student at SDSU! I am very proud of her, she has worked very hard in community college for the last two years and I know she will excel at her new school.

Update on me!

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

Some of you may have noticed that this weblog has been down for a while, so here is a re-cap of things I probably would have written about:

  • I now have a girlfriend, and she is great! There will be more exciting news on this topic in the future.
  • I now have a new job! I will be working for a high school district as a network technician.
  • I finally got my Ruby On Rails powered weblog up an running. There will definitely be more entries on the trials and tribulations I suffered while working on this

Dog House

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

So I have started building a dog house. All is going well so far. I have the basic frame and the rafters for the roof completed, next will be the flooring, roofing and the siding. I have over-engineered it of course. I find it difficult to do something without over-doing it, oh well I suppose there are worse problems to have! Hopefully when I am done it will look something akin to the rendering.

No rendering is available.

Jury Duty

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

Damnit… I have jury duty, and not the kind where you just call in for a few days. This may throw a rather large wrench into my future plans. Oh well, tis’ one’s civic duty.

Not so far from the tree after all…

The BBC has an article reporting that:

more than 40% of those questioned believe that creationism or intelligent design should be taught in school science lessons.

And here I thought that only us crazy fundamentalist Americans were into this shit. Hopefully this is one of those surveys where they asked people “Do you believe in God?”. I fully expect many people to say “Yes”, as sort of a knee-jerk reaction. I honestly believe that if you asked them to define their beliefs, that most people’s answers would vary widely from those defined by the Church. What I am getting at it is that in my humble opinion, this survey, like most, is flawed. I could go on and on about this topic, but I will leave it at that.

Saving Seats

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

I am often annoyed by people saving seats in a movie theatre. I have, on numerous occassions, passed by many a fine seat because some person said “Sorry, this seat is taken”. Every time this happens I want to reply “I don’t see anyone sitting there, so, no, it isn’t taken.” and then promptly sit down. I don’t mind it so much when it is one seat, or even two. If a lady is saving a seat next to her for her companion, I don’t mind. It is when half a row of seats is being saved because one person in a group of 10 gave Timmy his order for a hot dog and jumbo Coke while he “saves” everyone else a seat. Why do we accept this? Would anyone really try to stop me if I just ignored the, “This seat is saved” comment and just sat down? I feel that I have the same right as any other ticket holder to sit in any seat that is not occupied.

The same goes for standing in line. I hate it when someone excuses themselves to the front of the line where their “friend” has been saving them a spot. I call shenanigans. Allowing people to cut in line defeats the entire purpose of standing in line. If a person arrives to an event later than the rest of their group, why does that entitle them to a spot in line in front of me. I was there earlier than they were, by definition, I should be ahead of them in the line, right? Perhaps the next time I witness this, I will call the person on it. I wonder what would happen, fisticuffs perhaps?

Your thoughts?

30

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

So, I am officially 30. I don’t so much mind it, but it sounds old. I certainly don’t feel 30, I don’t think I have changed much since I was 20! I guess I am more compassionate and less self-centered, which are both good things. I suppose now that I am 30 I should start to think about what I am going to do when I grow up. Having a crappy job and no social life is so last decade. Perhaps I should move to Oregon? Or maybe Arizona? Maine sounds nice too. I have been living like opportunity will just find me, but it hasn’t. I suppose I should go find it, but where do I start looking? I have an idea for a cool business, but no money to start it, so what do I do? I guess I will have to answer these questions to move forward. So here is looking forward to 40, hopefully I won’t be saying the same things in 10 years.

What happened to Christmas?

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Have you noticed that in almost every advertisement heard on the radio or see on TV, Christmas has been replaced with “Holiday”. I really do not care one way or the other, but I do wonder if completely changing a popular traditional phrase in an effort to be politically correct really makes any Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists, etc… feel better. I think that if I were in one of the above groups I would be angry that out of all the possible social changes that could be made, this is what changed. I find it really hard to believe that anyone is truly upset by hearing “Merry Christmas”. I certainly wouldn’t be upset if a Jew wished me a “Happy Rosh Hashanah”. So if I don’t see you prior to the 25th of December, Merry Christmas!
