Cellulosic Ethanol

An interesting article at Wired Magazine (online) talks about using Cellulosic Ethanol to mitigate our dependence on foreign oil. This is definitely worth a read. The primary road block to using this alternative fuel is cost. The simple solution - raise the cost of foreign oil! I have talked about cost being the motivating factor behind most all that we do, and this is simply one more case where that proves to be true. Unfortunately, it is political suicide to even hint at a whisper of mentioning anything related to increasing the cost of foreign oil through increased taxes. That being said, I doubt we will see cellulosic ethanol based fuel on the horizon for quite some time.

Camping equipment

After our trip to the Sequoia National Park it has become evident that we need a few things. Most importantly a little stove and some cookware. While we could just run out to most any store and get a camp stove, I would rather have something that will serve two purposes. Snow Peak Giga Power Stove Most of our camping together will be done out of the car, but I do want to do some backpacking. As such, I would like any equipment that we buy to work well enough that it serves our purposes while camping from the car, but also small and light enough that I wouldn’t mind hauling a few miles on a trail. To that end, Jeff has suggested the Snow Peak Giga Power Stove (non-Titanium).

I have looked this stove over and it seems to be a perfect fit! Thanks Jeff.

Poor suppport from Flickr - Follow Up

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Well, nothing like being a month late. While I was extremely disappointed with Flickr’s prescribed response time, the problem did sort itself out the next day. I was finally able to log in to Flickr about one hour before I was contacted by their technical support. So, poor support, but the problem fixed itself. Hopefully I will not need to contact Flickr’s technical support any more in the future.

Bad Blogger

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

I’ve been a bad, bad blogger. I haven’t written a post in ages! Well, what better way to remedy this situation than by starting up a new blog, one for my wife and I. It can be found at Melissa & Shane.

More from this blog will be coming shortly.
